Season Record: 7-0
In what many have tabbed as an instant classic, the Dragons escaped from Washington, DC, with a thrilling 50-46 victory over the Eagles of Model Secondary School for the Deaf.
A whirlwind of a week continued after beating FCC on Tuesday as FSDB had to hop on a flight and travel to D.C. on Thursday morning. Upon arrival, they had two walk-throughs to prepare for the game. To complicate matters, they had to install our kick-off and kick-return units for this game, as the league in Florida doesn't do kick-offs.
"After a shaky start saw us down 0-16 (MSSD fumble ret for TD, recovering ensuing onsides attempt, and marching down for a TD), we regrouped and slowly chipped away at their lead. A pivotal moment in the game came right before halftime, as we could score a touchdown with 12 seconds left in the 2nd quarter. That brought the halftime score to 20-24." said Head Coach LeFors.
The Dragons came out of halftime and stopped the opponent's first possession. After that, FSDB scored and took their first lead of the game 28-24. It was a see-saw battle, with both teams trading touchdowns after another.
It came down to the final MSSD possession after the Dragons scored with 1:06 left, and their defense held on to secure the victory!!!
Our next game is tonight vs Countryside Christian for the divisional crown. If we win, we automatically secure a berth to the top bracket of the SSAA 8-man playoffs (called 4A). If we lose, we'll have to hope to secure a wild-card berth into the 4A playoffs. The game starts at 6:00 pm at HOME. We'll briefly recognize our 3 Seniors a few minutes before the game begins.
