Congratulations to our cheerleaders who attended the FHSAA State Championship this past weekend in Lakeland, FL. The team finished in 18th place. Although they got 18th out of 18, the competition was extremely close. The last six teams were all within two points of each other.
"I asked the team to set a goal before we went into the competition," said Head Coach Lia Ferrante. The team chose to "hit zero," which means no bobbles, drops, or mistakes on stunts.
"I can happily say that we "HIT ZERO," had zero deductions, and they accomplished their goal!"
The little things they can control, such as straight arms and legs together in their stunts, can make all the difference when teams are within one or two points. But they had facials, smiles, energy, and a successful season.
"Qualifying for State is a win!" said Ferrante. "It takes dedication, commitment, and a few bruises. I hope each cheerleader knows what they have accomplished and carries that fight with them in their future endeavors."
A small group of six cheerleaders will now prepare to compete in Oklahoma for the National Deaf Cheerleading Competition, which will take place in three weeks. FSDB won 1st place last year and is a solid favorite to repeat!
