Lady Dragons Playoff Recap

The Lady Dragons traveled a long way to Newberry for their first playoff game — and just like so many this season, it was a battle to the very end—another heartbreaker.

They started strong. FSDB's defense made a big stop on their opening drive, and then they struck first with a touchdown — a beautiful extended play capped off by a couple of slick moves from Mariska, who danced her way into the end zone to make it 6-0!

The Lady Dragon's defense came up big in the first half, shutting them out completely. At halftime, it was 6-0 in favor of the Dragons.

FSDB got the ball to start the second half but couldn't get things going — dropped a few key passes that could've kept them moving. Newberry capitalized with a long pass over our defender for a touchdown and took the lead 7-6 after converting the extra point.

Offensive struggles continued, and FSDB turned the ball over again. The opponents made another long pass and scored, making it 13-6 after a missed extra point.

But the Lady Dragons weren't done.

Early in the 4th quarter, FSDB responded with a touchdown and a successful extra point to tie the game at 13-13.

Then Newberry's star player, #4, broke loose on a long run, slipping past 3-4 of our Lady Dragons and scoring to make it 19-13. Still, FSDB fought. With just a minute left, they marched downfield and scored another touchdown to tie it up again at 19-19. With 30 seconds left, FSDB missed the extra point that could have given the lead. That's when #4 struck again — a 65-yard heart breaker to the house. Final score: 25-19.

"Our Lady Dragons left everything on that field. We played with just eight players — many already worn down from a weekend full of track meets — and we hadn't even had a chance to practice before this playoff game. And still, they gave it everything. I couldn't be more proud of them.

They fought. They believed. They never quit. Thank you all for your incredible support this year. It was a fun ride, even if it didn't end as we had hoped. These girls deserved more — they had an amazing season and gave us everything they had.

To our seniors — I'll miss you. Wishing you the very best in what's next." " said Head Coach Christopher Lennon.

Go Lady Dragons.

Until next time.????
