Game Recap: Lady Dragons vs. Palatka
The Lady Dragons visited Palatka on their Senior Night, knowing a tough loss on Monday left them with a lot to prove. This game was crucial, as both teams were fighting for a better position in the district standings, and a win here would give the Lady Dragons the upper hand.
The game started with the Lady Dragons on offense, but the first half was a slow start for both teams. Despite the early struggles, the Lady Dragons' defense stepped up and stopped Palatka. We got the ball back; our offense moved down the field. Quarterback Joss made a beautiful roll right and connected with Kayla for a touchdown! However, the extra point attempt was no good, leaving the score at 6-0.
Palatka responded quickly, showing off their star player with lightning-fast speed, who raced down the field to score. They converted the extra point to take a 7-6 lead with just 40 seconds left in the first half. Then, disaster struck for the Lady Dragons as they turned the ball over on an interception and ran for defensive touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good, but the score stood at 13-6 Palatka at the half.
The Lady Dragons regrouped and came out fighting in the second half. The team played with incredible heart and determination, shutting down Palatka's offense and preventing them from scoring more points. Despite the pressure, the Lady Dragons stayed focused and resilient, ultimately earning a hard-fought 19-13 victory.
The game came down to a dramatic final play. With only 10 seconds left and Palatka had the ball from 50 yards out, their star player #30, known for her incredible speed, broke free and sprinted toward the end zone. But in a truly game-saving moment, Kayla made an outstanding flag grab, stopping her just a few yards from the goal line and sealing the win for the Lady Dragons.
I couldn't be prouder of how the team fought back from a 6-13 deficit at halftime to secure this victory. They played with heart, unity, and grit, spoiling Palatka's Senior Night and showing they are truly a second-half team.
Season: 5-5
Next game: A rematch against the Matazans on Thursday, April 3rd. After a narrow 7-9 loss earlier this season, the Lady Dragons are hungry for revenge!
