Game Recap: Lady Dragons vs. Matanzas Pirates - A Heartbreaker in Overtime

The Lady Dragons traveled to Matanzas for a highly anticipated revenge game, facing off against the Pirates in what would turn out to be another defensive showdown. Both teams struggled to break through each other's defenses, resulting in a scoreless first three quarters.

Finally, in the 4th quarter, the Lady Dragons struck first. After a strong drive, they punched in a touchdown, but the extra point attempt was no good, leaving the score at 6-0. With only two minutes left in the game, the Pirates managed to move the ball down the field and found themselves just 20 yards from the end zone with 10 seconds remaining. In a dramatic moment, the Pirates completed a long pass for a game-tying touchdown, but like the Lady Dragons, they too failed to convert on the extra point.

The game moved into overtime. The Lady Dragons took possession first and were able to score another touchdown, going up 12-6. The Pirates responded quickly, matching the Lady Dragons' touchdown and tying the game at 12-12.

In the second overtime, the Pirates took the ball first and executed a flawless play, throwing a touchdown to take an 18-12 lead. The Lady Dragons had one last chance to tie it up, but a crucial dropped touchdown pass kept them from forcing another tie.

In the end, the Lady Dragons fell short, losing 18-12. While the game showcased strong defense from both teams, mental mistakes ultimately hindered the Lady Dragons' chances of victory. The team is devastated by the loss, especially with the feeling that the game was there for the taking.

With their season record now at 5-6, the Lady Dragons turn their focus to their final home game next week. On Tuesday at 6 pm, they'll face the undefeated Clay team for Senior Night.
