What an outstanding night for the Dragons!!!! FSDB hosted the Cubs of California-Riverside (CSDR) for their 85th Annual Homecoming game. The Dragons overcame a horrible start, but ended the game in a beautiful victory formation.
To begin the game, CSDR moved effortlessly in a handful of plays to take a 6-0 lead. The Cubs elected to do an "onside kick." The league does not have kickoffs, so an "onside kick" is when the offense is allowed to run one play and must gain 15 yards to keep possession. The Cubs converted the "onside kick" and remained on offense. That shook the Dragons, but the defense stepped up tremendously and stopped their offense, forcing them to punt.
The Dragons offense finally took the field and managed to put up three consecutive touchdowns to gain control of the game. The offensive stats were not pretty, but it got the job done and FSDB dominated time of possession.
"The defense deserves all the credit for the victory," said Head Coach Eric LeFors. Besides the first drive and one long pass in the 4th quarter, the Dragons put the clamps on the vaunted Cubs spread attack. "We pressured the quarterback relentlessly and took them out of their rhythm. I'm really proud of how we played defense!!" LeFors said proudly.
The Dragons are back home this week and will host the St. Francis Catholic Academy Wolves from Gainesville, Thursday, September 25, at 7 p.m.
