George Dorough ‘68 - Athletics

Football

  • He played varsity football for five seasons from 1963 to 1967.
  • As a superb defensive middle linebacker, he also contributed as an offensive right tackle in 1967, proving to be the glue that held his defensive team together.
  • One of his standout performances came in a particularly hot and humid game against Callahan in 1967, where he registered 15 unassisted tackles.
  • In another crucial match against Hastings that same year, he played a key role as a linebacker by stopping Hastings' top running back—who averaged over 100 yards per game—just inches short of a touchdown, helping FSDB secure a 31 to 26 victory. Thanks to George's relentless defense, the Hastings player was held to under 90 yards and didn’t complete a single pass during the game.
  • Over the course of his career, he also made four interceptions.

Basketball

  • Varsity basketball for two seasons (1965-66 and 1966-67).

Wrestling

  • Varsity wrestling for one season in 1968 under Coach Jackie Johnson.

Accolades:

  • All-County Linebacker (1966)
  • All-County Lineman (1967)
  • All-Conference Football Honorable Mention as a tackle (1967)
  • All-American Football by The FRAT (Deaf Magazine, 1967)
  • He was a member of the 1966-67 Varsity Basketball Team whose record was 20 wins and 3 losses. The team was in the Regional Basketball Tournament for the first time.
  • He continued his football career at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) while studying at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). During this time, he played as a defensive end under Coach Tom Coughlin, who would later achieve great success as the head coach of the New York Giants, winning the Super Bowl twice.
