Albert Hayne Walker (1870-1927) – Honorary Staff Member

Education

  • Head Teacher (Principal) from 1902-1906 - Third family generation of Deaf Educators. 
  • Became the 6th President from 1906-1927.
  • Received honorary doctorate from University of Florida 1916.
  • Teacher, Scorekeeper, Timekeeper, Editor, Interpreter, Sports Promoter, and even Driver taking football and basketball teams to away various games.

Community

  • FAD member, Flagler Hospital Board member, President of the Bank and Charter member of the St. Augustine Rotary Club
  • The original Walker Hall (known as the Administration Building) was two stories and held the president’s office, classrooms, an auditorium, a cafeteria, a library, and a dormitory. It was was renamed Walker Hall in 1928, in honor of A.H. Walker.
  • The building stood for 60 years (1909-1969) before it was demolished in 1969 due to safety reasons.
  • The “new” Walker Hall was built in 1969-1970 and was dedicated to Mr. Albert Walker on March 20, 1971.
  • It currently houses the Deaf Middle School and the President's Office.
