Gene Kurtz (1935-1991)

  • His FSDB Varsity Basketball Team (Captain) won 2nd place in the first-ever Mason-Dixon (Southeast) tournament in 1953. In one game, he made 42 points. He was the only FSDB player selected All-Tournament among the schools in both 1953 and 1954 MD Tournaments. Led Team in Average points he made in Basketball in 1954. 
  • Was on the Varsity Football team for 5 seasons (1949-1953).  
  • Was selected to be Deaf All-American in Basketball by the Deaf American Magazine in 1954. Was one of the great athletes at FSDB during the 1950s.
  • Was on the United States Basketball Team that won the Gold Medal in the Deaflympics in 1965.
