Mary Burns

  • Chosen as MVP of the FSDB Girls’ Basketball Team in 1969.
  • Co-Founder and First President of the FSDAA in 1984.
  • Director of the Miss Deaf Florida Pageant for 7 years.
  • She was corroborating/partnering with FASLTA and FRID in helping raise $14,000.00 for the pageant in 1996.
  • Chair of the SEAAD Basketball Tournament in Tampa. Broke the record in the number of teams: 14 to participate. 
  • Chair of Mason-Dixon Bowling Tournament hosted by Tampa Bay Association of the Deaf (TBAD).
  • Host for Fun Day at Busch Gardens to recognize Deaf Awareness Day.
  • Being recognized and awarded for her excellent community leadership by Deaf organizations such as TBAD, FAD, FASLTA, and Tampa Deaf Service Center.
