James “Ricky” Douglas ‘81 - Arts

• James “Ricky” Douglas ’81 is widely celebrated as one of the most talented artists to attend FSDB. As a student, he produced hundreds of drawings, consistently demonstrating creativity and dedication to his craft.
• In 1980, Douglas collaborated with another student to paint ten vibrant banners featuring the mascots of the Deaf schools participating in the Mason-Dixon Basketball Tournament, with a special emphasis on FSDB. The banners were completed just in time for FSDB’s hosting of the tournament in January 1981.
• After graduating from FSDB in 1981, Douglas continued to pursue his artistic passion and has successfully sold countless works.
• In 2004, he designed the current FSDAA logo and generously donated it to the organization, which adopted it for use on its letterhead and banners.
• His creative influence endures—most recently, in 2021, he created eleven Mason-Dixon school mascot artworks that are now proudly displayed in Settles Gym.
