Cary A. White, Sr. (1900-1983) – Honorary Staff Member

  • Was enrolled in FSDB from 1907 until his graduation in 1922.
  • First Black Deaf graduate from FSDB in 1922.
  • Worked in many various capacities at FSDB from 1922 to 1968 as a vocational teacher, dorm teacher, carpenter, electrician, cook, farmer, and bus driver.
  • Was a great role model to Black Deaf students and staff.
  • Built the farm at Casa Cola near the airport.
  • Taught students the skills of dairy farming and beef butchering, and delivering the products and supplies to the FSDB school kitchen. 
  • Was a vocational classroom teacher, taught the cognitive-challenged students and served as dormitory teacher in the Black Department.
  • Served as a chauffeur for the school’s president.
  • The Cary White Complex for special needs students was dedicated in his honor in 1991.
